Mille Lacs Sleeprs

I was surprised recently by my wife who said for my 40th birthday I could go on a third trip this year. We are already doing Cascade and LOW, so my brother and I thought about revisiting Mille Lacs. We haven’t been there in 9 years. We last stayed at Appledoorns. I am looking for some suggestions for a sleeper. We enjoyed Appledoorns when we stayed, just curious what everyone else’s thoughts are on the other options.

    Thanks again.

I have gone with Twin Pines that past two seasons. No complaints. They were very reasonably priced.

I have stayed at a number of different outfits out there and I’ve learned what’s important…to me at least. That being an inside porta-potty. I’ve been where they don’t have them and never again. Without one it’s a deal breaker for me.

I’ve not stayed yet at Appledoorn’s but looking at their website their houses look deluxe and even feature pics of the porta-potties. smirk I would not hesitate to recommend them. Another thing is how well they clean and maintain. Better one’s will check and maintain the rattle reels before guests arrive. I’ve been to some where they were mostly unusable. mad Some places don’t clean up well either.

I would also suggest those that rent the full skid houses instead of the wheelhouses. Skid houses are wider and roomier.

Places I’ve been that I would recommend would be Mac’s Twin bay, Lyback’s, and the Wharf maybe. Hunter’s Point looks to have nice houses too.

As far as fish catching…too early to tell where they’ll be biting. wink

I rent 2 houses every year from Hunter’s. Their houses are in great shape. Everyone I have been in is knotty pine on the inside. Also their bar and food is great.

I’ve stayed at appledorns, hunters point and barnacles. Barnacles was ok, very good value but exterior mounted bucket to crap in. Hunters point was great with both the house and the bar. They used to offer free walleye fillets if you didn’t catch your limit, not sure if they still do that. Stayed at appledorns last Feb. and they were decent houses, basic version, with a nice bar/restaurant. The owner came and check on us and gave me a few lures he was catching fish on the previous night so hard to beat service like that.

We’ve stayed at Red Door the past 3 years and have been happy with their sleepers. We usually have around 10 guys, so we get their largest one, and next size down. Good price, and friendly people. The shacks are pretty standard, with a stove, no toilet and decent rattle reels. Last year, we had a few that could have used new line, and hooks.

We are going back this year again.

Appeldorn’s gets my vote. If you haven’t been there in 9 years, they have come a long ways! New bar and restaurant, very nice bathroom and shower room, Paul and crew go out of their way to make sure your are taken of. I believe they also have some new and updated houses this year. Another reason I like Appeldorn’s is they aren’t as busy as say Hunter Point or Mac’s Twin Bay, with 1,000+ vehicles going in and out all weekend long. Makes for better fishing without all the vehicles driving around IMHO.
