It was a great day out on the lake Saturday making great memories with my son Zach and brother Al. The weather was perfect for fishing and the walleye were cooperating nicely. We boated over 30 walleye with many year classes present. We caught anything from 12 inches all the way up to 27 inches, with two 21’s, one 24, three 25’s, one 26, and one 27. All were fat and healthy. My son Zach also caught his personal best walleye which was the biggest of the day at 27 inches.
We were pulling spinners on the edge of flats. Most of our fish came off of the top edge of the flats. When the bite slowed we did move on the bottom side of the flat and picked up some as well. We were using crawlers and leeches. Neither one out shined the other, but at certain times one was getting bite over the other, so switching bait between the two was necessary throughout the day to stay getting bit. I would say what worked really well for me was to use my electronics in conjunction with my trolling motor. Using the follow the contour feature on my Humminbird/Lakemaster, and I pilot link was key to staying in the strike zone and to concentrate on fishing.
Good fishin,
Ben
