Took a ride up the west side towards Garrison today. Saw lots of houses on the ice which I expected. However it looked to me like very few were on the same areas that you see boats on during open water. Why is that? I would think summer or winter the fish would be pretty much in the same area.

I’m completely guessing but maybe lack of waves. No walleye chop pushing forage in the winter. Maybe weeds in different stages also. Has to be forage related.

If you are talking about boats seen during the last 5-7 years, probably fishing bass open water.

It’s easy to move in a boat. Not so much in a wheel house. They tend to park somewhere and stay there, regardless of the bite. Jon Jordan also brings up a good point. A lot of boats target bass now, or muskies.
