Mille Lacs or LOTW… pick one.

Sleeper shack, 4 guys. One you will most certainly bring fish home… and will probably bring a lot more fish through the ice albeit a lot of small ones.

The other appears to be absolutely on fire right now, all big eyes and pretty much unkeepable.

    How do we decide.

I’ve had a very hard time even finding sleepers available on Mille Lacs this year. Maybe the availability factor will help make the decision.

Mille Lacs is not on fire right now. It’s been cold front after cold front, and now it’s February. I’m sitting on Mille Lacs right now scrolling on IDO. Not a good sign.

    I’d go to LOW.

Also depends on how far away you are from both lakes and if you are looking to keep fish. I’m heading to LOTW end of this month but we always dread the 5-hour drive.

Give it a few weeks, the choice will be obvious..

LOW has been good as of late. last week a lot slower from friends I know but mille Lacs was also. You can save some money and do a cabin and day house on LOW as night time is not worth it. If you want a meal of fish LOW is really only option. Maybe get a keeper on mille Lacs then your done fishing. LOW late season is a nice chance to fish for large pike too and still get to fish walleyes when the rest of the state is closed.

My dad just came home from lake of the woods today they were up for 5 days. Said it was the best fishing he has had in years. 4 walleye at 29 a few 27 and multiple 26s. Plus he said they absolutely hammered your average 15 to 21 inch fish.
Out of warroad. Muskegbay Springsteel I think he was at.

I love Mille Lacs…but would choose LOW 10 out of 10 times if given the choice.

It might be different if it was before Christmas, but LOTW hands down.

Everyone said it was on fire. I caught 1 fish in 2.5 days in a sleeper. Never even marked a fish! Rattle wheels in 2 nights and nothing. I’d go to LOW any day over ML but it’s a haul. February will be a tough bite anywhere you go because that’s how it is.
