Even before watching the show checking out the teaser pics last week from Andy and James’ trip to ID had me thinking perch this past weekend. It was also my first chance to try out my new Tuned-Up bullwhip…

The bite wasn’t fast and furious but we found a few jumbos in the 12-13.25″ range I the NE sand fishing 27-30′. I’ll post a full report later this week.

Nice fish Will. Those Bull Whips are pretty cool, eh? I just wish mine wasn’t swimming at the bottom of a lake.

The bullwhip was awesome Andy… Worked perfect for small spoons and tungsten jigs. I can already tell it’s going to be a workhorse for me for the rest of the year as I start looking to move from chasing eyes to going more after panfish.

We were fishing out of a decked out permanent house that I own together with a couple friends. I rarely sit still long enough to use it but boy it sure was nice to spend a weekend fishing in a t-shirt and slippers!

Well that’s a silly comment…then how would Will dangle his rod over the hole then? To make matters worse, I heard a rumor that on a night of a little too much drinking, Will took a bet that he could accurately measure the depth of the water up to 20 feet without turning things blue. Before he tried though, he insisted they redrill the holes to 10 inches. Just a rumor.

You will never catch me pantless when treble hooks are involved and my LX-7 works just fine for checking depth.

I went out of Castaways Friday and was marking a lot of fish, but had a hard time getting them to commit. I did end up with one nice jumbo, a couple of tullibees and a small walleye. I wish I could have found a pile of perch that size. All fish came on baits with a rattle in them. I punched holes anywhere from 22-32 feet of water. Best luck was right around 30 feet around Carlsona Sand, but that was also where I was at around sundown so that probably played a part in why I caught most fish there.

So Andy what is the story on the new Bull Whip going for a swim, or is it too painful to talk about?

I have fond memories of a Jumbo perch outing on Mille Lacs many years ago.
Sure would be nice if that came back strong.
