Thinking about heading up to Mille Lacs this weekend. Is the ice still thick enough to drive on? What is the best resort to go out of? What depth is producing the most walleye, perch and northern? What presentation is producing best for you? Taking a first timer out and want to get him hooked so I have a new fishing partner. I plan on taking my side by side out, so if the ice isn’t thick enough for my truck, that’s ok. Any advice is appreciated.

You would be just fine with your truck if you wanted to use it.
Always be aware that there are cracks opening and closing on this lake. Check in with the resort you choose to go out of for any dangerous areas.
Hunters Point area will be pretty crowded this Saturday with the Perch Extravaganza. Plan accordingly.

Its is getting pretty dark there is still trucks and ice castles on the lake I did notice that Terry’s Landing had the road closed, Twin Pines has a ramp out. Looks like ice starting to heave up a bit.

Another member was asking about the auger mount that I used on my RZR. Just showing a different view.

Was out of Red Door last weekend fishing 31 fow at the bottom of a mud flat break. Fishing was okay but not gangbusters. We landed about 25-30 from Friday 6pm to Sunday 6pm including overnights.

Rattle reels were the best for us. On Friday they were very, very neutral. Example – our best pattern was two fish on a Lindy flyer spoon with a minnow head. What’s so interesting about that you say? It wasn’t moving at all, just laying motionless for at least the last five minutes.

On that same neutral theme small rainbows and crappie minnows were best during the day. Shiners in the middle of the night.

24″ of ice at our shack and driving the truck the three miles. As mentioned earlier, cracks can change frequently.
