Based on camera images, it looks like Mille Lacs is going to crust over tonight. The only camera showing open water is Twin Pines.

If you’re in the area and can call it, please do.

The in laws will be over tomorrow and enjoy nothing more than to talk about how there’s not enough ice these days to justify a fish house. Can’t wait to tell them Mille Lacs froze a week earlier than average this year:)

Tina Chapman said they have consistent 6” ice, and they checked it out to 300 yds.

I just got here, too dark to see out. I will try to post a pic tomorrow morning from here on the NW corner.

Thanks Andy! It’ll probably open back up again Monday, but the in laws will be gone by then;)

Might have to check out Chapman’s to see if he is letting people walk out

I know Beachside in Wahkon was pulling out spear houses and small fish houses for today, or maybe it’s tomorrow.

    Woodshed,
This mornings view from the NW corner. I can see a small band of open water way out, but don’t need to tell your in-laws. wink

Where do you get the satellite image like that?

I can tell you without looking at the satellite that it’s gone now. A little hanging on to the shorelines. The SE side bays are probably holding out for a little while but with the forecast, they too will fall apart…at least for getting out ice fishing in the short term. The main basin…start over. sad
Need to have an extended period where daytime highs stay below freezing. I never make reservations for any dates sooner than mid January anyway but I’d like to walk out during Christmas vacation. tongue

I’m hearing people are drilling holes up there this weekend. Is this true?

Just talked to Chapman’s. Six to 6 3/4” ice. A few fishermen on their live webcam. That probably tells the story.

Any reports? And wonder, can you fish two lines from a boat right now?

I was up at the cabin on the NE side this weekend. Ice as far as the eye could see. More ice heaves and ridges than I’ve ever seen. I walked about maybe 50 yards and popped a couple holes and there was probably close to 4″. The first 50 yards off shore wasn’t to choppy but a good 100-200 yards out all the heaves and ridges started. Didn’t venture much further than 50 yards out. With the cold weather coming this week and next the NE side should be good to go in a week or two.

Any updates from the north end of the lake? Tough to see on Modis today, but looked close to capping and most Lake cams look capped over…

Looking at the cameras this morning, it appears capped over to me.

    yay

Excited to get up there. Currently planning the 16th as that’s the first weekend I have free.

Gear is getting prepped and piled in the basement.
