Hey guys, first time on Mille lacs fishing the flats off red door. All I can seem to catch is tulibees. I mixed in one walleye last night but that was it I guess my question is, is this always a thing out here? Also any recommendations on low light depths to fish would be appreciated. I’ve thrown everything in my box for two days straight and haven’t seemed to make any progress.

To catch walleyes mid-day, you’ll want to move ,move, move until you find fish. Find places that are farther away from people. I usually fish the bottom edges of the flat from 29-33+ feet. Don’t be afraid to go 50-100 yards off the edge of the flat mid-day. Historically I’ve always had best luck with dead sticks and tip-ups mid-day. That can change day to day as well.

Once you’ve found a fishy spot mid-day, pull up onto the edge of the flat for the evening. Sometimes right on top of the flat.

I was up last weekend fishing on the east side in 29′, nowhere near the flats, and had my best luck on a #5 rippin rap uv green. Next best were the rattle reels.

Awesome, thanks for all the info! I’m gonna give it my best shot into tonight. I was probably too high on the flats.
