Just wrapped up a week at the Red Door, and the fishing didn’t disappoint. Walleyes are in their typical late summer patterns, early and late obviously best. Pulling spinners behind bottom bouncers off the deep edges of the mud produced the best. The bobber bite was good from 7pm-9pm on the mud, with 20-25 fish nights common, lots of sizes, most in the 16-20 inch range with a few big girls mixed in.
Smallmouth seemed to be everywhere, from 8ft all the way out to the deep rocks in 20 plus ft. Tubes, Flicker shads, and leeches were all consistent.
I tried something new and trolled the first break to try and get a few slimers for a fish fry and found success. The break from Barnevelds to Barnacles produced a bunch of nice eater northerns, and I lost two that were pigs….one was close to 40″ I’m guessing.
Another great week at the lake, Red Door was fantastic as usual. The only negative was the fish flies…wow. Barnacles meet raffle on Friday and Saturday is always fun with ice cold beer makes a for nice break to get off the lake for a bit.
