Thought I would add a quick report. Fished most of the day last Friday pulling blades around the north flats. Fish are really stacked up out there right now, but all flats aren’t created equal. I did a lot of driving around before dropping a line. All fish came tight to the bottom of the break in 28-29 fow. Gold and perch colors were best. Marked very few up on top. Good luck out there, it’s definitely blade time up on the pond.

We, too, had a good weekend up on the the Big Pond. Blades worked well for us as well. Ended up to a little bobber fishing Saturday evening and that was just as good if not better! Such a great fishery!!

Nice work, what was the tape on the 3rd pic? That’s a hog.

I believe it was only 26.5″ but VERY healthy. The Smallie was 21.5″

Were you using snap weights to get the blades down?

Later on in the year when I want to speed up, I’ll even use 3oz bouncers to stay at 45 degree angle. I’d rather be sure I’m close to bottom and maintain the right line angle at higher speeds.

I fishe a NE mud flat last Friday and did really well too. I found my fish on the top edge and all over the top of the flat I was on. I did catch a few on the bottom edge too but I marked many more on top. Pulling blades and crawlers was best. Got a few on blades and leeches too. Orange/yellow was definetly preferred. Tried purple and silver with only one bite in an hour while the orange/yellow caught 5 in that same hour.

Ran in to my buddies fish house for nap time and headed back out after dinner for a rock reef bite which was fun too.

Was out on Saturday for the morning bite with a buddy and our 2 boys. Did very well with 30 fish, did well with leeches on lindys early and moved on with spinners and crawlers. Most fish came off the bottom edge of the mud in 32-33′, great time watching my 8 year old do everything himself. He’s a natural!!

The best walleye fishing of the season is going out there right now.

Saw the same thing on the southern gravel bars over the weekend. I was running a bottom bouncer with a leech during the day then switched to a bobber in the evening. The bite was on all day, even with the flies. There was nearly 30 boats on one bar for the evening bite Saturday, and two full launches. People are out there.

And it was good to see fish of different sizes. I boated fish from 12″ to 27″, but not in the same spots. At times I stuck four fish an hour using one line. Multiply that per line if there are more in the boat and it would be crazy time.

We went out on Sunday and my friend and I each caught our personal best! A 28″ & 27″ We didn’t slaughter them by any means, with the 3 of us in the boat having maybe a combined 10 days fishing experience on Mille Lacs. Think we caught 9 fish in about 10 hours of fishing but they were all big with all but one being over 22 inches. Mostly drifted over the flats with a lot of the fish coming off the edges on the deep water side. Jig and a leech caught the most fish.

Great fish everyone!! I have to get out there, but it’s really tough to leave the smallie bite to go to the mud for walleyes. We did get a couple mid 20″s inch eyes in the 4-6′ of water we were fishing bass in though.
