Had an interesting day on Mille Lacs yesterday, hit the water about 830 and the forecast was saying that we’d have good weather until 4 or 5pm. Within 20 minutes of getting to our favorite mud flat we stuck a 27.5″ and a 25.5″. Fished another 10 minutes, the wind switched direction and increased in intensity. Took
a quick look at my phone and told my buddy we better head for the dock, knowing it was going to take a little longer in those conditions!

We ended up waiting out the storm for around 2 hours I think and headed back out for what turned out to be a very nice day on the lake.

By our own very high standards on Mille Lacs, we had a slow day by only putting 17 in the boat. Biggest two were caught within those first 20 minutes.

Pulled crawler harnesses, no real pattern came together. Caught them on top, on the break and off the break. Used silver, gold, firetiger and copper blades to catch fish.

Thanks for the report. I’ll be heading up Thursday for a few days, can’t wait to get back out there. These were from a week or so ago.

Way to go Ryan. That is not a Hewscraft you are fishing in?

I did well yesterday afternoon and even better this morning on Lindy’s with leeches. This morning dad and I had 8 that we’re 25″ or better with the biggest going 28.25″. Most the fish came off the bottom end of the mud breaks in ~30′.

We were in my buddies boat, but I did sell the Hewescraft and bought a Crestliner 1650 Pro Tiller. So far it’s a been a good move because I’m out fishing more often.

Nice fish! I should give lindy rigging a try sometime, but I just enjoy fishing crawler harnesses to much.

Nice fish and let us know how it goes this week. I’ll probably try to hit it again in the next couple of weeks.

We were running 3/4 and 1 oz no-snag sinkers with 8′ rigs today. Wouldn’t need to go that heavy typically, but we were moving pretty quickly to cover more water.

There are so many big walleyes in that lake right now its absurd. Not enough perch to do around either.

I’ve been seeing a pretty good variety of year classes so far this year.

I agree there are a lot of big fish but we caught walleye from 12″ – 27.5″, which was good to see. Last year our boat didn’t catch very many under 20″

If you are off shore fishing the gravel/mud flats you will find mostly bigger fish right now. I have been bobber fishing the reefs during the evening the last two weekends and finding a ton of 15-20 inch fish. 2 of us fishing from 7-10PM and we are catching 12-17 fish in that size range.

X2 – have not found the need to run out to the mud yet this year. Lots of fish still in close to shore.

Gave the rain gear a good work out over the last few days ! Think the lake came up a couple inches since last Thurs.
