“Fishing update January 11th.,”
Fishing this past week has been anywhere from slow to maybe a medium speed! Trying to figure these Walleye out is definitely a test in itself although some are marking fish on the flasher units and even seeing fish on the underwater cameras,
Anglers are catching mainly undersize fish currently. Using a variety of baits for getting bites; Northland Airplane jigs, jigging Raps along with Buckshot Rattle jigs.
Colors varying from the chartrueses, greens and “glow” baits.
I did a little experimenting a bit tipping with “gulp” and Powerbait grubs adding scent trying to attract more fish.
Tip-up sets using 3 to 5 inch sucker minnows scattered from depths from 15 to 30 feet of water and varying the depths off bottom are good for seeking suspended fish.
Perch bites too seem slow
Reports throughout the Bay seem to runs about the same, with fair angling pressure.
Ice conditions with all our warm weather are holding well in the north end of the Bay with between 8 and 10 inches,
from the Gladstone Yacht Harbor.
CAUTION SHOULD BE EXERCIZED FROM THE MOUTH OF THE ESCANABA SOUTH…HIGH WINDS HAVE CAUSED FRACTURED ICE AND DANGEROUS OPEN WATER AREAS
For more info. on the Bay you can check out the Daily News in Escanaba at http://www.dailypress.net
Best advice is just take it easy and use good common sense traveling throughout the entire Bay.
