I went to Northern Michigan Univ in Marquette several years ago and fished jumbo perch through the ice. I believe the lake has a fair walleye population and some big pike… but have no recent first hand knowledge to pass on to you.
I believe the state record yellow perch came out of the lake.
I would call the lodging you are staying at for more information. This is a very beautiful area and just about the end of civilization…

doesn’t look like anyone posts here so I should be safe

spent the 18th-22nd up in Big Bay at Lake Independence.

caught some nice smallies, largest was 18″ lots of little perch and 27 walleyes 14-18″ fished the stumps in the morning with top water for smallies and then lindy rigged walleye in the evening, tried trolling open water bait fish for pike and eyes, no takers. walleyes were in 8-12ft.

    Thanks for the report Bucky!
I’ll bet there weren’t large crowds way up there…
