My daughter from Kalamazoo texted me about this:

A 37.4-pound black buffalo, a member of the sucker family of fish, was caught by Kalamazoo’s Bryan DeGoede on Sept. 5, breaking the state record for the species.

DeGoede caught the 39.3-inch beast while bowfishing at 11:50 p.m. on the Kalamazoo River in Allegan County.

    MINNESOTA State Record Fish
Below is a complete list of Minnesota’s state record fish and where they were caught. Weights given are in pounds and ounces (example: 55-5 is 55 pounds, 5 ounces)*.

Species Weight (lbs. – oz.) Length/girth (inches) Waterbody where caught County Date
    Buffalo, Black 20-5 34.2 / 20 Minnesota River Nicollet 06/26/1997

Michigan just smoked Minnesota’s record for this ugly pig by 17#.

    But,
Do Minnesota’s records include Bow (Hunting) Fishing too?

So, was he Hunting Fish or Fishing?

Shooting a fish does not count for a MN record. Shooting those fish is much different that angling for them.
