Sitting in the office yesterday, Nicole calls and asks when I’ll be home and if I can come home early. Considering I’d rather be most places vs. work. I decided to head home early. When I arrive home I see the car is packed. When I ask what’s up, Nicole informs me she is taking me to Milwaukee for a birthday weekend of ice fishing Browns and Steelhead. Of course I was ready to go before she could finish telling me all about it.

Today we hit the ice around 6:30. We were the only ones out there until 10ish this morning. Around the same time I was out re-baiting the set lines and I hear Nicole screaming at the top of her lungs, “Fish on!”. I yell back I’ll be right there and I’m told it’s a little more urgent than that in no uncertain terms. I ran back to the house to help Nicole land a nice Brown Trout.

That was the only fish of the day. We only had two other bites. One on a set line and one on my jigging pole. Of course I got bored jigging away and set my rod down. Ten seconds later my rod bounces from a quick strike and it’s all over.

Hopefully tomorrow will see more fish on the ice. Regardless, I can’t see how my b-day could be any better.

I also got a new hub style fish house (Frabill Outpost) for the weekend. It’s nice to have a fish house that is so much lighter than my Eskimo Profish 350 (flip style). All my gear weighs in at just under 100# compared to just over 200# when using the Profish 350. So much easier to drag.

Sounds like a fantastic birthday. Nice fish. She may be a keeper.

Awesome birthday – enjoy it, I’m not sure many guys could say that their wife would do that for them. Good luck on the ice, I hope you catch a lot tomorrow.

    Happy Birthday

Well, we busted out today. Three strikes with little results. We did manage to break a rod on a fish. Oh well, at least it was sunny and warm. A nice day to be on the water/ice.

Sorry Mark. Your replacement rod will be in your hands soon.

Well, we gave it one last effort today. To bad we have to leave mid-day as it was beautiful out there. 42 degrees and sunny when we left the ice. It was a bit windy, but nothing we aren’t used to. The fish seemed to cooperate a little better today. We saw a number of flags as well as picked up a nice Brown off one of the automatic fisherman and one off a jigging rod. The first one was 25″ long X 14″ girth. The second was 24.5″ long and 14.5″ girth. The girls wanted to sleep in this AM so it was just Kile and I out there. Unfortunately it’s back to the real world tomorrow.
