Sitting in the office yesterday, Nicole calls and asks when I’ll be home and if I can come home early. Considering I’d rather be most places vs. work. I decided to head home early. When I arrive home I see the car is packed. When I ask what’s up, Nicole informs me she is taking me to Milwaukee for a birthday weekend of ice fishing Browns and Steelhead. Of course I was ready to go before she could finish telling me all about it.
Today we hit the ice around 6:30. We were the only ones out there until 10ish this morning. Around the same time I was out re-baiting the set lines and I hear Nicole screaming at the top of her lungs, “Fish on!”. I yell back I’ll be right there and I’m told it’s a little more urgent than that in no uncertain terms. I ran back to the house to help Nicole land a nice Brown Trout.
That was the only fish of the day. We only had two other bites. One on a set line and one on my jigging pole. Of course I got bored jigging away and set my rod down. Ten seconds later my rod bounces from a quick strike and it’s all over.
Hopefully tomorrow will see more fish on the ice. Regardless, I can’t see how my b-day could be any better.
I also got a new hub style fish house (Frabill Outpost) for the weekend. It’s nice to have a fish house that is so much lighter than my Eskimo Profish 350 (flip style). All my gear weighs in at just under 100# compared to just over 200# when using the Profish 350. So much easier to drag.
