I made it out on the ice in the harbor for the first time this winter. The ice thickness varied so I stayed on the docks. It was was pretty cold but the wind wasn’t to bad and the sun made it feel a little warmer. I ended up getting 3 brown trout in a few hours. The second male was a nice 15 lb. fish. Good way to start the ice season!

How was the water clarity? After the northernly winds bashing the shoreline, it was looking like chocolate milk earlier this week.

Congrats on your great start of the ice season. I’ll be out Sunday in a different harbor

    Awesome!

in all the years of living down in Racine, I never once fished the harbors through the ice. I’ve got a trip scheduled down there in mid january so I might have to take the gear along!!!

I’m 10 minutes away in Racine and have never done it…. guess it is always a grass is greener somewhere else sort of thing.

Nice fish… not sure many guys eat them (smoked or whatever) but they have to fun to catch for sure. Good job!

For me personally, Browns are generally C&R / I’ll keep a steelhead or two (males) for the smoker. Good stuff!

I always release browns and for the most part the rainbows. I have enough king salmon in the freezer to last the winter. The browns spend way to my time in the harbor to be kept in my opinion.
