A small window of some salmon run action has started, but it’s just on the tip of things starting to happen. The water is in the upper 60’s to low 70’s in close and there is another week of near 80 degree temps headed our way. We fished the pierheads early and went 3 for 5 with glow spoons and fastracks, a very short burst at sun up and then there was nothing. We pushed out to 100 feet and picked up 1 more, but things are still slow. The 41+ lb brown trout caught on the Michigan side of the lake should be confirmed as a new World Record and if there is one out there at that size there has to be a few more that can swim on in at any time.

I hope they can wait until Oct. I assume this weekend has not chance and I am hunting the last Sept weekend. I sure dont want to miss it this year.

The boss got a call from a guide we know in Michigan this morning about a big brown that his client caught this morning on a crankbait fishing for Kings on the Big Manistee.. I have heard two weights since then 40lbs 6oz initially but just had word that it came in at 41lbs 5oz when the biologists put it on certified scales. Old world record was 40lb2oz.
