I know this is a bit outdated by now, but I know there are a lot of guys planning trips of considerable distance. So, from this last Saturday, here is what worked for us.

Trolling – Lake Michigan 25 to 45 fow

    Temp avg. 58 degrees surface

Wordends Toad II crankbaits, Pro-King Spoons

12′ Fenwick noodle rod & medium action bait casting rods

I have a bass boat, so I don’t get too fancy with trolling since I moved away from Racine some 20 plus years ago. But the light tackle tactics for trout and salmon is an experience everyone should enjoy at least once in their fishing career.

I flat line two 12′ noodle rods with deep diving cranks running 10 to 16′ down and two bait casters with keel weights and Pro King Spoons on planner boards.

We found fish to be very scattered out. Key was to find balls of alwives and the chinook were not too far away. We had day break to about 10:00am to fish, so I thought we did ok. We bounced around inside the harbor for awhile to check things out on the browns. Got two more and saw a few porpusing around us.

Unfortunately my camera has a format issue and I can not get the pics off of our fish before releasing. Though here are some screen shots of what we were looking for.

    Randy,
my trip this weekend is on the verge of cancellation because nothing is happening shallow in Algoma. Are there other options I can consider? Like you I am just long linging with my Lund.
