Getting close. Anyone know if the kings are starting to move towards shore yet?

    Mike,

Just got of the phone with a friend in Millwakee (sp?), he scored two last night of the peer, biggest was 12lbs. He’s going again right now, I’ll keep you posted. I’ll be heading to Port Wash in few weeks.

Sounds good guys. I have the two middle weekends in Sept set aside. Kinda sounds like we will be going the first one if things keep progressing along so fast. May even have to consider Labor Day. Fingers crossed on weather. Last year it killed us.

They’ve been in all of August and part of July!! The west winds have been blowing all of the warm water out… The cold upwellings are keeping the fish close. Many guys have even been fishing 10-20 fow and doing well. Shore guys catching them as well, I guess. We did really well in 55 fow at PW a few weeks back..

Good deal. Just ordered a new Beckman salmon/musky net.
    That’s a once-in-a-lifetime event!!!
You guys are scaring me with these reports of fish being close but I imagine it wont impact their spawning run. At least I hope not.

I needed a job that I could drive over the river twice a day, just to check things out. Also a very short run up the hill if I get paged on the weekend. Oh, and after I get done with the page, I can get bait, beer, and chow on my way back to the boat, all on the same street! Sorry, off topic I know…..

Email from my buddy, he fished yesterday. His last statement is in regards to my question whether a cat pole would be too heavy to use.

“Fished Milwaukee pier yesterday afternoon. Started at 4:30, 6:15 got a 23lb king (10lb test)
7:15 had another hit, fish on, drag zing, snap! rod broke in 3 pieces.
I retract my statement about “regular” gear.”

23 is pretty big for there.

I use my bass gear. 14 lb. Never broke a line or been spooled. Oh, and I use large spinning reels for both. I am an anomaly.

    “borrowed” this from another site

A lot of the four year olds have large ripe spawn sacks and looks like they’ll be in the river shortly. A lot of guys on the south pier this AM with at least three fish taken early AM. Several reports of fish on but lost because of size and tackle failure.

may want to head over soon this was from kewaunee

    another “borrowed” report

Went out last night out of Kewaunee. Waves were to big for me to get set up by myself so went on the south side of the pier and anchored to cast. Tons of bait around and an equal amount of fish. Had a couple on but not able to make them stick but still fun. Guys on the pier did very well saw many fish caught.

Just talked with the domestic committee. Sounds like we’ll be in Algoma over the labor day weekend.

I’m not sure what’s going on in my brain. I’m a hard core waterfowl hunter and labor day weekend is goose opener in MN. Am I really giving that up for a chance to fight that big king. Hell yeah I am!

Such is life. Domestic Committee has been accepted into the nursing program and will not be able to get away for a long weekend like that. Oh well, Guess I’ll just have to go shoot a goose that weekend. And maybe chase a walleye locally.
