Took the Fiance to Lake Michigan for her first trip. Fishing was not as good as I hoped, however we did manage to land a few fish. A small King and a decent Steelhead.

This first morning was perfect. Very calm. To bad the fish didn’t want to cooperate. That afternoon the wind kicked up and there were about 4 foot waves. Despite that she was able to land her first King Salmon and her first Steelhead.

The next day was challenging at best. 20+ MPH winds and high seas. 6′ waves or better. We managed to get out for an 1.5 hours until she got sick. Watching her get sick pushed me over the edge so we called it a day. Before we went in, I managed to tie into a pretty large Steelhead. I know he was large because I couldn’t control him, couldn’t gain any line on him, and he jumped a couple times to give us an idea just how big he was.

This morning there were 4′ waves. We got out for a few hours before we had to head home. All we managed to do was get fish hooked up and he managed to throw the hook. It felt like a small King or Coho.

With any luck next time will be more productive. She did have a great weekend though.

Gut, how did you guys end up doing over the weekend. I think NOAA was BSing on the wave predictions this AM. They seemed to be bigger then the 2 footers NOAA was calling for.

Yeah we should have. We sat at the harbor for about an hour trying to decide what to do. I looked for you guys, however I couldn’t remember which boat was yours.

Speaking of boats. Since I’ve been shopping I’ve learned a lot. This weekend taught me a lot more. I’ll definitely be looking at a 19′ or 20′ boat. I still want it to fish the river, so that should be my max length. I was pretty impressed with that Boulton Powerboats rig out of South Dakota that landed in the harbor.

That guy had a 22′ with the offshore bracket. Impressive looking rig. Not sure about using that for river eye’s.
