got several emails this morning from Capt. Keith Wills from Escanaba, Mich, http://www.walleyeschoice.com
Conditions are that about 5 to 7 inches of snow dropped throughout the Bay area. We all have to remember though that this upper peninsula region, lake effect and lots of other variables tend to drop more or less in certain areas.
Open water is still being seen south of the Gladstone Harbor area and hearing a few fisherman did go out of the Escanaba River mouth, but all in all its still not safe ice. Temperatures are to drop into the teens over night and the next several days. This will pretty much put an end to open-water fishing. We’ll keep you posted fisherman, the ice is not quite safe yet so now its’ time to clean the snow around the ice house and getting ready for setting tip-ups and spooling reels for jigging!
Here’s a scene from last year to wet your appettite!
