    December 29th., Little Bay’s run-down;
    ——————————————————————————–

    slush and water is the state of the Bays ICE as of the past couple days. Talking with several fishermen going off the Day’s River Yellow Gates running into deep slush but having at least 8 inches of good ice below.

    Heads up on traveling around the Saunders Point region, the Barge Travel we had several weeks back and with the rains/warming temps. has opened up some areas there. Use good caution if traveling these areas………. Seeing a lot more truck travel although ATV’s and Sleds for the most part. Gentleman fishing the Escanaba Harbor said caught 7 nice crappie with perch minnows until a big pike showed up in about 5 feet of water.

    Catches of numerous small undersize Walleye again this beginning of the season with Perch mixing in good numbers. Again traffic north of Kipling Launch, Butler’s Island and the Day’s River upper Bay all good starts. Breakline edges and weeds,

    Jigging and tip-ups; Raps, spoons, shiners and perch minnows. Cooling down this upcoming week should tighten the ice/slush up again with less snow to deal with.

    Just wondering on if the ice is getting better up that way. Also wondering about hotels or places to stay around the Gladstone area. Thanks

    Here ya go Steve… the first four are very close to a major ice entry (Bayshore Tackle) and great bait shop! They will give you great info on conditions with just a phone call!

    Gladstone Motels etc
