My father, brother in-law and I made our annual trip to Racine, Wi for the salmon run. We fished Saturday afternoon until Monday morning. The river level was good and the fishing was great. Saturday we scouted around catching a few, keeping 4 Chinook. Sunday we arrived early at the river and while waiting for legal fishing time we noticed some guys running around with a landing net. They were netting the salmon and keeping them! When they got close to the spot I was going to fish I started yelling to stay out of my spot and that what they were doing was illegal, but that did not stop them. They just moved back up stream looking for another spot. The fishing though was fabulous as we landed tons of salmon and 5 brown trout. The only thing to remember is to bring alot of patience. When there is over a 100 meat hungry rude people around you they will do anything to get your spot. I had to raise my voice a couple times, undo messes with people casting over my line and move people out of my spot where I was standing before I left to land a fish. But it’s still alot of fun! Next year we are going to go Sunday – Tuesday to get away from the weekend warriors. Here is a picture of one of my Browns, one of my brother in-laws Chinooks, a good stringer of fish and the many people fishing nearby!
Can’t wait till next year,
Dream’n
