After hearing about some good action right out our front door, hit the big Pond this morning, launching at 4:30 AM. (Kind of reminds me of getting out before the sun comes up at Pool 4, to pitch the rocks….except no smiling Dean or Brian to greet us at the Big Pond). anyway, the fish were very cooperative today, nothing fast and furious, but steady action throughout the morning. Set up the troll just outside the gap, in 35 FOW, heading NE. No hits till 50 FOW, but managed to go 8 for 12, trolling in the 50 to 70 ft. depth range. Sppons, flies, and J’s all took fish, but best set-up was 5 color lead with spoon. final count was 3 coho, about 3 to 6 lbs, and rest chins, with two biggest just under 16 lbs. Time to fire up the smoker….last Friday’s batch is gone….too many hungry buddies. Will try to post pics later.

The bite has been steady here so if you’re inclined to chase these fish, now’s a good time.

    Well done Ed,

Glad you are getting some action. Good to hear some fish are around since the rock has been dead this year.

It’s been slim pickins’ on time to fish, so it’s nice to hit ’em pretty good when I can make it out. Probably have a dry spell coming up, but will have to try harder to make up for it later on in the season. Have yesterday’s batch brining right now, for the smoker tomorrow.

…catching up on posting photos. One of the nice ones we got last trip. Word is that the fishing is still very good out there, but other responsiblities have me bogged down …at least for the time being. But there’s hope in sight.

Yup, I hope they’re still biting, cuz looks like that may be my next window of opportunity, too. Sounds like the fishing has remained phenomenal on the Big Pond all this week, except the winds haven’t been very cooperative lately. Good luck if you make it out, and send me a message if you go….can yak it up on the radio if I’m out too.

Out again yesterday afternoon, setting up lines in 100 fow at 3:30 pm. Marine forecast I saw just before leaving home was SW winds, 8 mph……liars! Pretty good chop coming from SE, turned to 3 ft. rollers plus chop by 6 pm, with gusts to 18 knots. So we went with the flow and trolled with the waves to the NW, pretty much staying between 90 and 110 fow. Pretty slow for us with first fish coming almost 2 hours into it, a nice 10 lb. bow, hitting a spoon on a dipsey set at 3, with 150 ft. of line. An hour later, a 4lb. coho hit a spoon on a rigger, set 70 ft. down, and we finished the evening just after 8 pm by loosing a decent king that was about 3 feet short of being netted…decided to make a last run, and unhooked. Lots of boats scattered north of filters, in all directions from where we were, still fishing as we packed it up.

Wait a minute! Wrong forecast, higher than expected wind. big waves. That sounds familiar. At least no one got sick

Glad you were still able to get out.

Made an unexpected trip to the Big Pond Friday evening….an old buddy who just moved from Eagle to North Carolina last fall, called on Thursday, and said he was flying in for 3 days. So, what does a good friend do? Pick him up at the airport with the boat in tow, and go fishing, of course! We launched at South Shore about 5 pm, and motored to 60 fow, just south of filter, and trolled into the 3 foot rollers coming out of the N/NE. Not much chop to them, so ride wasn’t bad. Action wasn’t fast and furious, but we managed to go 5 for 5, with 3 coming on riggers set at 50 ft, and two on 5-color lead. Spoons and J’s both caught fish…2 coho, 1 brown, and 2 chins, including this nice 18 lbr. at came just after the sun went down on a silver bullet. My buddy took some salmon home, to add to the bream in the freezer, and share with his redneck friends.
