The walleye bite is pretty tough right now, to say the least. Just too much food out there to compete with ( still some mayflys and incoming alewives ). The mayflys don’t seem to hurt the bite as much as the alewives do. And hopefully the alewives should be gone in another week or two. Some nice fish are still being caught on Big Bay de Noc though. When the fishing picks up again, if it is like years past, the area around Black Bottom between Gladstone and Escanaba should really turn on. Last year, there were an incredible amount walleye in that area during the month of August. And the fish in the weeds will start hitting again too. There are loads of walleye hiding in the weeds, that don’t get pressured too much. And if the weeds you are casting, are getting pounded by waves, these fish will hit all day long.
