I live in S. MN and have some relatives that live in Milwaukee. If I get a chance to visit them this summer I would like to try some fishing. I’ve seen fishing shows where they fish for trout and salmon from shore in the harbors on Lake Erie. Are there many accessible spots that you can catch fish like that in the summer? And what works the best… spoons? Thanks for any info.

Einstein: I grew up fishing Lake Michigan about 90 miles north of Milwaukee. Any of the harbors or piers out into the lake will put you onto fish. You can use more than one rod. So I’d use one with bait. Alewife or crawler and one casting spoons. Little Cleos, Mr Champ etc. What time of year?
Usually need a long handled net too. Or you could always hook up with a charter.

Port Washington has a real long breakwater [pier] and alot of poeple fish off that. I’ve never fished off of it. I’m sure there is something similar in Beertown.

My group goes out of Port Washington every year. When they shut the landing down, for fog or something, we cast off the harbor break early in the morning and have caught some very nice Browns and an occasional steelhead. Big Cast Masters or Little Cleo’s have always worked well. Don’t try to cast the light trolling spoons, they don’t cast well and the fish don’t seem to like sinkers. Try to cast parrallel to the rocks and a faster even retrieve will usaully work best. Being that you can use two rods soaking an alewive can work too. I’ve never caught any like that but it’s the most common way to fish from shore.

oops looks like I had a brain fart, but you guys knew what I meant. I don’t get my name for my brains it comes from my dog. Thanks for the info. I don’t have a specific date I’ll be over there if I even make it over there. It would be in the summer sometime though. I have fished off breakwaters near Duluth and it sounds pretty similar. Hopefully if I make it out there I will catch some fish. I’ll try not to drive past Milwaukee to Lake Erie.
