What test and brand line do you run on your riggers and dipseys? I’m getting set up and am unsure. I’ve thought abot using braid. Is tha a good choice?

On my rigger line I use 20# Ande clear, Dipseys 25# Ande clear, and/or 60# spiderwire W/teflon for the deep running dipseys and pumphandle rigs and 25# Ande clear for the in-line planer rods. I did try cajun red and it did not work for me, I did like Ande’s ocean blue that came out last year. In the spring, I’ll run 17# leads on the board lines for fishing browns in shallow. A downrigger line hit, try running 200# Power Pro instead of wire on your downriggers. If you have any thoughts on Ion control it all goes away, the Power Pro doesn’t carry electrical current.

Regardless of where you plan on fishing floracarbon is key. Anywhere from 17# to 25# should work fine. That being said remember to leave your drag set light. Nothing will break line like a 20lb King heading the opposite direction of your boat.

We probably go a bit lighter than most, but use 15# Trilene Big Game for downriggers and boards. Never had problems with breakoffs or knots coming unglued, so we stick with what works.

Used wire line for the dipseys last year for the first time and was skeptical about losing fish due to the lack of stretch, but the mono from the dipsey back to the bait was obviously a sufficient shock absorber to handle screamers, as we landed all but one of the 3-4 year old salmon that hit them.

    Good luck!
