May be heading over to Manitowoc this weekend… any ‘tips’ for a guy that won’t have a boat with him? Anything in the river? How about fishing from a pier?

I grew up there and as a kid I lived on those piers. That was befor they built the marina. The south pier is the end of Hwy 10 where you pick up the car ferry. The north pier is a longer walk but the rocks around the comtainment vessel is nice fishing. The cleaning station is located there too. Have an asst. of spons in silver with blue and orange. Hit Fleet Farm over there for supplies. Long handled net helps too. Can also set up a bait rig on a 2nd rod using alewife you can pick up while walking out. Set the drag loose or wedge it in the rocks or you’ll be waving goodbye when a big one hits.

Do you have to have a Great Lakes Trout Stamp in order to fish off the piers/shoreline? I have an inland stamp but didn’t buy the Great Lakes stamp… If I need one, I’ll probably forego fishing out there unless I can find areas where I can target ‘eyes, northerns, perch, etc…

Yes you need the GL trout stamp. But it’s only $10. Seems cheap to have so much fun with the big fish.

Agreed, $10 is cheap ticket to enjoy that kind of ‘interactive’ show . I’ll pack my poles and tackle box – if I decide to wet a few lures, I’ll stop by FF and pick up a GL stamp.

Sounds like the trout and salmon have started moving into the tributaries. Probably target these areas too.

Any thoughts on targeting ‘eyes or pike or perch in that area?
