Water temperatures averaging in the low to mid 50’s until the last few days. A three day Southerly wind has warmed the North end dramatically up to the mid 60s. Walleye catches were increasing by the end of the week. Most anglers fished in the shallower areas off the reefs at the head of the Bay. Anglers trolled and drifted crawlers in 6′ to 22′ with 2nd reef being best. Garth Point area was another hot spot with anglers reporting good catches jigging crawlers in 10′ to 14′. The Escanaba River produced some nice catches of walleye trolling the channel and from shore anglers. Boater’s drifted or trolled crawlers very slow in 10′ to 12′ while shore anglers cast floaters just over the pilings at the North Shore boat launch. The bass season opened last weekend but I did not get to fish Smallies there as of yet but will let you know ASAP.
Perch anglers at the Gladstone landing reported several nice catches off the red buoy in Kipling jigging crawlers in 23′ to 25′ and also south of the narrows in 30′.
I am going back up to Chequamegon Bay for a few days…so get out there and keep us posted!
