With the Manitowoc Derby finishing up today, our 7th place Super Tournament place was ok with our new crew. Our Chie was off when our bucket of chicken was left in the truck. We didn’t get on the big fish, but managed to put 84lbs of fish in the box. My past crew broke in there new boat and took the chance staying in shallow water and they hit the big salmon, ending up with first place and 160 lbs. Great job out there to the team of the Reel Deal. Sun. morning we boated 9 smaller fish trolling from the piers out to 300 feet of water. That afternoon the waves picked up to 3-5 feet, but our wrestling group from NV were tough and it payed off with a nice rack of big rainbows and kings. Still no pattern to lures as these fish hit J-plugs, spoons, cut-bait, and flasher flies at all depths. It’s just like throwing the kitchen sink at them, and they still bite.

Nice catch . 84 pounds is a lot of fish. in any box if you ask me. Couple of quick questions, do you use dipseys much and if so how do you rig them up? Do you use the 1 pound weights and how do you rig those? Do use use flashers and flies, or flashers and spoons or just spoons behind them? I’m trying to learn more ways of putting fish in the boat than just the downriggers. Thanks much and good job on 7th place.

I use all of the above, the dipseys have not produced much for me this year, but I put a snap swival on the line snap on the dipsey add a snubber some time behind the dipsay and then 4-6 foot leader and run what ever bait on it. The #ball is much the same a snap, 3 way swival, one lead about 6 inches with the snap for the ball, the other about a 6 foot lead and a snap and add a bait. Right now the J-plugs are coming on strong, running them on every type of set up. With the fish biting like they are now there isn’t a need to refine the leader lenghts much just keep the lines in the water and the fish will bite. Goog Luck Out There!

Thanks much for the info. I was trying to run the stackers on the downriggers but I’m not convinced about that as of yet. I’m sure it all comes with experiance I just need a lot more time over there fishing.

Keith: Congrats on the 7th place finish. I was back home helping my cousin on a roofing project and we got out on the pond a few times but only found the small ones. The storm Monday morning sent us back to bed. Something about lightning and graphite rods… Saw you up on stage but didn’t get a chance to say Hi. Did meet up with an old buddy Randy Junk who I haven’t seen in 20 years. Good Luck in the Trivers tourney this weekend.
