The smaller boats made it out this weekend in Two Rivers. The Seagull Marina launch is open, but we will not see docks for a while yet. The shore line brown trout action has been good and most people have just been excited to finally get back on the water. The rainbow action up the river as been good at Shoto and Mishicot. The river has not broken open yet, but a warm week ahead of us should get the ice moving.

    Willie Bee:

I just moved back down to this area and am fishing the big lake for the first time from a boat (mine!!! ) Looking forward to getting out again this week. Looks like some decent wind early this week. I have been chasing the browns down here in the Kenosha, Racine, S. Milwaukee area now since February and hope with more time on the water to get some more in the boat.

It sounds like the guys are getting more on spoons lately down here and the cranks are starting to slow down.

Well I finally got the skunk out of my boat on the Big Lake. I caught this brown pushing ten pounds in about 7 feet of water just off the Pike River north of Kenosha. Met another guy who is fishing up in Trempealeau. He told me he had been fishing ringworms up there for years and I asked him if had heard of IDA and he told me NO!!! He put together three fish from the same area, but none were over 4#’s. This one came on a glass diving shadrap about 40′ back of a board. Taking the picture was quite an act in the waves. Holding the fish, setting the timer, keeping the dog out of the way and wondering if the camera would fall into the livewell. So I guess I wasn’t surprised that the picture didn’t turn out that well. Having looked at it after I released the fish, now I wonder how it would have turned out had I added flash. Oh well, it was a great feeling. I have caught plenty of trout and salmon off the walls in various harbors up and down this coast, but this is the first one out of my own boat.

And today I kept the streak alive. Another in the 6-7# range. Same glass shadrap about 40′ back of the board. I tried to get three lines in the water today and of course this fish caught the new line as well.
