Thinking of going up to green bay next week for whitefish and some evening walleye. Never been before, I’ve got the gear and transportation, just looking for some direction. I plan on contacting Paul Delany as I see he has some options based on how prepared you already are. Any advice welcome.

are you looking to go out on your own? –or– are you looking for a semi-guided trip?

I can probably provide some helpful info either way…

So far its just me and hopefully one other guy…maybe more will join us, but unlikely. Hate to sound like a slob, but looking for advice on technique and productive spots. Willing to pay guide for help, but would welcome fellow fisherman who has experience to fish with for 1 to 2 days.

If you’re looking for a semi-guided trip, several outfitters provide transportation to-from communal houses that are set up with heat and holes. They usually provide some basic instruction and leave you alone for the day for about $25-$50. I would recommend JJ’s Guide service but there are others as well, just google.

For set-up; I like to use jigging rap or pimple tipped with waxies or gulp, a 12”-18” leader, a swivel, and a small jig or small treble (also loaded with waxies or gulp) just sliding above the swivel. Make contact with the bottom with the jigging rap and slowly bounce it off the bottom, lifting a foot then dropping back to the bottom. You’ll feel the whitefish just load up on the lift.

    Check your messages.

Thanks again, great info on tackle setup and services. I’m set up for 2 guys, maybe 3, but if we get more I will have to inquire with the guide you mentioned

Was set up in 35′ by 7am and had 6 whitefish on the ice by 8:15 (but 3 of those were little throwbacks). #3 orange/gold rap was the ticket. After that the 6″ perch moved in and the current picked up. Moved out to 40′ and made contact with a few more whitefish but couldn’t get ’em on the ice; very finicky. Was hoping to do better but I still got a few good ones for the smoker.
