Hey to all the Great Lakes Salmom people. This saturday I will be heading out to sheboygan salmon fishing with a buddy of mine from back home in Minnesota. I know this is slightly earlier than most years, but scheduling wise this was when vaction worked out for him. I have been out to lake michigan a few times before fishing sheboygan as well as door county (baileys harbor) area. I have unfortunately not made a trip in a few years. My friend has all the gear from dipses to boards, spoons, flies of all sizes, j-plugs, dodgers, and flashers, as well as leadcore. This is his 5th year of making a trip to sheboygan, but like i said this trip is somewhat earlier than normal. Looking for any updated information as far as color and presentation, depth and and specific water temps. We of course will be trying to find kings, but will be happy with cohos as well as steelies or browns. Thanks for any information, ill be checking IDO from the phone as we go. I got a date with some big prairie eyes before I leave tho , thanks guys, – QB

Sheboygan is my hometown. I was home last weekend. We did see a lot of boats out. We saw a lot of fish being cleaned. As far as what they used I do not know. I did find this… a link to a local charter who posts info.

Welll QB, there’s good and bad news for your trip out here this weekend. The bad news is that this year is way behind schedule compared to last year, especially for king action. The coho bite was really good this year but has slowed over the last week and a half or so as the the lake was “turning”. The good news is that the “turn” is pretty much over now and fishing should start to get much more consistent for the rest of the summer. Another thing you’ve got going for you is that this year, the big lake is kicking out some giant kings. LIke back in the day, were once again seeing fish exceeding the 25lb mark. This is probably due to the cutbacks in stocking as well as the large amounts of bait around this year. The bait situation has also been a double edged sword, because although it is making the fish nice and plump, it also seems somedays that the fish are just “full” and you cant buy a bite even when you know you’re on them. All in all, Ive been having a very good year with all the fat hos and few kings ive caught being true drag testers. Im sure you and your buddy will run into a few fish no matter what. You have a very friendly wind forecast for the weekend which will allow you to pretty much fish wherever you want. -90-150 fow has been the most consistent for me and most of the guys I talk to. As far as baits go, nothing has changed really. Still very hard to beat white flasher\fly combos with little boy blue or naughty leprachaun flies on riggers and dipsys and blue\ green spoons doing well on leadcore and copper. If the kings elude you, tie on some 00 orange dodgers with peanut flies and fish them in the top 30 feet of the water column for more steady coho action. Full coolers and screamin drags QB, enjoy your trip in our state!
