Boat for Green Bay

Never fished in Green Bay before and am tossing around several ideas for future family trips. For those who have fished it, is a Alumacraft 175 Sport enough boat for fishing in the Bay and up to and around Washington Island, or are we a little on the small side for handling ‘typical’ conditions in the Bay?

You can get one called a Packer, you just have to be careful though because once it gets a head of steam, it will sink.

You should be fine with that boat. I’ve taken 16 and 17 footers out there plenty of times. The big thing is watching the weather. You don’t want to be in legit 4 footers with it. Pick your days and Green Bay can be smooth as glass. Other days 4+ footers can happen easily.

Strong north or south winds are your worst enemy over there.

I’ve fished both sides of Door County in a 17 foot Lund for the last 4 years for both Walleye and Salmon. Most days I’m OK, some days not. Just have to pick your days based on weather and pay close attention to changes. I’ve got a marine band radio and monitor the weather channels often. I believe your boat is considerably deeper than my lund, so you should be fine most of the time.

BUT…I bought me a new 20 foot Skeeter, so I should have less days stuck at the dock .

Make sure you have all your Coast Guard Equipment on board as they check on a regular basis.

Great advice and you wouldn’t want to be without these items in case of an emergency. As mentioned if you keep aware of your surroundings and weather conditions you will be fine with your boat.
