Late report from Saturday. with a few days off this week, decided to start off on the Big Pond to see if the plastic bite was on. Fished inside the harbor area throwing plastics in a number of areas and drowing fatheads on a dead stick when the winds and waves weren’t too bad, and got browns by both methods. Only boated 10 and lost about 6, but the fish are there and it should only get better, for those thinking about making the drive. all fish in the 3 to 12 lbs class, so no big ones yet, but they’re in there. Nothing beats the smash, runs, and jumps that follow, using walleye gear. Gulp and fatheads are what we used, and saw a number of boats catching on saturday. The trollers seemed to be doing pretty good too.
Anyone thinking of coming out, make sure your boat is legal. A buddy was out in his own boat, and got a citation for no flares. Before Saturday, never did see the Coast Guard going from boat to boat, but they did on Saturday.

Thanks Z Man… live fifteen minutes away and plan on going for the first time… why it has taken me so long to try I don’t know. Checked my flairs… yea, way out of date. Guess a new package is cheeper than a ticket.

4″ white or yellow gulp and decent weight jig as good as anything?

Maybe the 4″ moxies that I never seem to catch walleyes on…. LOL Thanks again for info.

You can probably get into some from the McKinley pier. As for the plastics of choice, I only go with 4 inch gulp minnow, or 5 inch gulp jerk shads, but I know guys who use other plastic like Zoom super flukes, and catch fish. so try the moxies, and let us know. (I’d bet they will catch fish).

Browns will definately eat a moxie too!

I was also to get out friday for my first time to play with the brownies this year. I would agree that the bite is pretty solid. Caught around 20 fish in 4 or 5 hours. Did a little of everything. Jigged, casted cranks, trolled, and fished spawn. All were pretty successful. Most fish around that 5lb mark as Z man stated, with a few better ones. Heres hoping that this year is almost as good as last.
