Can I use my Offshore boards with the red snaps on leadcore for salmon and can I get by with a rig with full core and just let out what ever number of colors I need?

uffda – never put the lead core itself in a snap. Run out all the lead core and put the mono or superline behind the lead core in the snap.
Lead core won’t stand up to being put in a snap very long before it wears out.
As for you offshore planer boards, they should work just fine with lead core.

We ran 6 colors on boards last weekend and it worked great. If you need to get deeper add a snap weight between the board and the lead.

Core on boards is always a good option- but again, no core in the snaps!!! Also remember that if you’re in heavy boat traffic, those boards could become a big problem if somebody decides to cut behind you a little too close.

Another option is a pump-handle either off boards or right down the chute. A 10oz pump down the chute was the ticket for us last weekend, we also had HEAVY boat traffic…

Offshore boards with a full core is pretty iffy unless it’s flat calm, as they have a tendency to dive and porpoise. I usually run the Church TX-44 boards for the full core, or go to the planer mast with my double skis.

Thank you all for the info. I’ll be up out of Sturgeon Bay next week.
