I had a job that didn’t start until late morning, so I had to sneak down to the river to stick a couple more fish. It would appear as if the majority of the steelhead run is really winding down. The river has dropped, and the clarity is still a little on the dirty side. So many empty beds and lots of suckers making their way up the river.

Purple was the ticket for today. The first fish I swam a white streamer by bolted into a deeper run. Listening to what the fish said, I cut it off and went dark. Purple Zonker (variation of) dark purple rabbit strip with crystal flash. The few fish I pitched this to inhaled it!

If you look close at a couple of the pics, you can see the beds and how they stand out in the discolored water. I included 1 pic of a hen sitting on her bed. You can see her dorsal fin is out of the water. Even with very good polarizing glasses, the females are often difficult to see.

The majority of the company I had while fishing this morning was a beaver making its way up and down the river without a care in the world.

Awesome way to start a day.
