Took my dogs out at 11 last night. Soon as I stepped out the back door I was blasted with a strong musky scent and my dogs were keyed in to it. Walked into my tiny backyard, peered around the corner of the garage to see a large doe right next to my house. One woof from the dog spooked the 8 pointer that was chasing her. He tore down the middle of the street. I could hear his hooves clacking against the asphalt long after he disappeared into the dark.

Pretty cool stuff here in the city. I’ve seen 3 decent bucks now in the past few days.

I’ve got a trail camera setup in my back yard next to my ” Squirrel Feeder ” I also live within the city limits but have a rather large wetland and undeveloped woods that butts up against my back yard. Been getting lots of decent sized bucks on the camera lately. They are on the moving and chasing right now for sure.

First good backyard buck of the season came through yesterday.

He’s a good buck. Across the street from me is heavy woods and crop land. The deer have been showing up in my neighbors yard late at night. Going to work last night at 730pm there was a good buck in the elementary schools grass area. Fun to see this time of year. But looking at road kill it seemed a week or 2 ago was the highest numbers I seen. Ran in to the dnr the other day on public ground access and he said lots of high quality bucks were hit in the last week, which would have been the week before last.

I used to live in town and it always seemed like the big boys would come in after the normal peak rut to do their thing with the resident city does. Pretty cool to see monster bucks chasing down the ladies in broad daylight on the city streets. My neighbor had a big buck mount a doe right out their dining room window just as the family was starting on thanksgiving dinner. lol

That same week I went to Alex area and usually see 1-3 roadkill deer on 94 in the fall. I saw 8 that trip!!

Walking the dog in the park today and this guy walked along the bike path with us. He stayed around 60 yards ahead of us the whole time, but could care less we were there until I grunted at him. He spun around and snort wheezed at me twice. After a brief stand off he continued on grunting and making scrapes all along the path.
