It’s from the ash burning plant in Bayport.

How do you know its a meteorite? I have found rocks similar to that and thought the marks were fossils.

I suspected it was from the metalic composition and surface pitting; we have a few on display where I work. I asked a couple earth and astro scientists to look at it and everyone agreed.

Could be, but if you live near a railroad track or old railroad bed it’s most likely slag from the track welding process. Its a common mistake. A meteorite typically has more rounded edges.

    Aren’t meteorites worth some money?

This would be a more common mettalic type. It’s about the size of two 3 quarter stacks, about 40 grams, so maybe $20-60?

Rarer stone materials can be worth thousands per gram. Known falls and historically documented finds are also worth significantly more.

Most meteorites are mostly iron, so it should react with a magnet.

Wasn’t there one of those reality shows that followed people around who made a living meteorite hunting? Kind of like looking for agates.

That’s pretty cool if those are meteorites. Good thing you weren’t in the garden when that thing hit. It would have left a mark for sure! smash

Really do we know definatively what it is? Mel Brooks told me its Space Herpes.
