I have a new Mercury 60HP four stroke and have a quick question about the fuel additives. Number 1, the Quickare, says add to every tank but number 2, Quickleen, says it’s “For use as needed throughout the boating season”. How do you know when it’s needed?

It’s an overpriced fuel system detergent. It’s only needed if your engine starts running poorly due to fuel system deposits.

Run good unleaded fuel, non-ox if possible. Install a water separator if you don’t all ready have one. Burn as much of the tank down as is practical before refilling. Do your PMs as recommended.

Chances are you’ll never need detergents.

When I bought my new boat my dealer recommended that I run either stabil or seafoam in every tank in order to help with the ethanol that is in our fuel these days. Stabil is fairly cheap and easy to measure out so I just use that. For as much as these new motors cost I think that it is worth the money to do everything that you can to protect them.

X2…Listen to what the experts at the dealerships have to say. They know best. Every tank I have ran on my 1997′ 50 horse 4 stroke Merc has had Seafoam and the Carbs have never been dirty…RR
