Mercury 9.9 4 Stroke Electric wiring question

    Hello all,

Looking for a wiring diagram, or wiring instructions to be able to use electric start on this motor.

I bought a used 2016 Mercury 9.9 4 stroke kicker motor, and it appears to be electric start ready, however it didn’t come with battery cables. I connected a positive cable to the starter solenoid, and a negative to the motor ground. Then connected it to a battery, switch in the RUN position, but nothing happened when I pressed the start button on the end of the tiller handle.

I then noticed a disconnected green wire coming off the solenoid. Further investigation turned up several disconnected wires and bullet connectors….

    Any help is much appreciated!

I can take some photos of mine tonight (although it’s a 2011) if you need some but I have a number of Merc 9.9 PDF files on my computer. Although they are from an older model, I looked through them and found one that may help you and attached it. Look on page 2B-5.

    Hey Karry,

That pdf is super helpful. Thank you for sending. I think pictures would be even more helpful.

    Much appreciated!

Here’s what I’ve got. It’s a little different than yours but the green wire looks like it might be the culprit.

Thank you so much! I’m going to have to do a deep dive into this wiring to figure it all out.

I’ve read about the battery ground wire being attached to a terminal at the bottom of the starter. Is that the case for your motor? Or is the battery ground just attached to the engine block?
