    brought the merc in as it was over charging per volt meter repair shop call today voltage regulator bad! they said 536.00 to replace? 105.00 per hour shop rate and he said 200 plus for regulator? I feel this is overly expensive? anyone want to chime in please do thanks a bunch

    I should have been a outboard mechanic. Those prices are crazy. But they have everyone in a corner.
    Honestly I’d call a few places and get quotes, or YouTube it and do it your self and save 300 bucks in 2 hours

    in guessing your motor is around a mid nineties engine,purely guessing mind you,CDI has that regulator/rectifier for 33 bucks and change,takes about five minutes to change it out.
    send me your serial number and model number,I will look the part up for you,tell you what it will cost and walk you through replacing it.

    however,if the stator is bad,that is a couple of hundred bucks and requires removing the flywheel,if that is the case,then the price isnt that far out of line

    guys it is a 1996 Iowaboy i am just having them fix it as I am working out of town and need it done for mille lac trip, but thank you very much!

    understood scratcher,best of luck to ya on the trip !!
    Trumar is pretty handy at that sort of thing if you are close to him.
    those years of mercs are fairly easy to work on if I can be of help albeit long distance,give me a shout.

    thank you iowaboy I appreciate the help and yes I have heard trumar is good in fact I have met him at everts a couple times. I am gonna find out more on details oem or non oem will keep this post handy to let you know thanks again to all. will be on pepin to test before mille lac on fri
