I marked the new cribs on my gps while they were still sitting on the ice, is this normally a panfish spot or will the eyes be using these structures this year? I figure if the baitfish are there the eyes might be interested.

Where those new cribs are at I have caught a variety of fish. Probably just attract more slimy northerns around there

Those snakes are a nuisance when I am trolling for eyes, I am sure someone has caught a decent northern in menomin, but I haven’t messed with one yet.

Those cribs are in a good location to draw both panfish and eyes. Worth checking once in awhile but it may take a couple of years for the fish to hang around them.

Don, will we be seeing you below the 94 bridge opening morning. If so I bet you will be there at zero dark early. Last year was my first year learning Menomin so I am looking forward to expanding that knowledge(very little knowledge) this spring, thanks for all of your help.

I will probably be up there. We need some warmer temps so those fish slide down. Up river may be the way to go if we don’t get a quick warmup.

I agree with Don, may take some time for those cribs to get better, but certainly worth checking out right away.
The way the winter is hanging on, those fish may be staying more up in the river this year for the opener, but then again, that spot could be loaded—fish and fisherman.
I heard this set of new cribs are designed to be crankbait proof and have northern repellant wafers attached to them.

That’s certainly the case on Wissota….not the crankbait proof part, but the part about the cribs taking some time to get good.

It takes time for enough algae and other gunk (food) to build up on the cribs for them to get good at holding baitfish for long periods of time. Constant baitfish = reliable gamefish opportunities.

The best cribs on Wissota seem to be 2-4 years old. Some of the best cribs that I fished a couple of years ago are now being reduced to short pile sof sticks that just don’t hold fish like they used to.

What about anchor proof, my wife likes to bobber fish on the cribs when trolling is slow, hence the anchor. I have lost 2 anchors on a crib south of Boy Scout Island.
