Hey Doc or anybody, did you get a chance to get out over the weekend?

My Friday plans changed by the minute: emergency patient followed by having to spend rest of afternoon at home unclogging the kitchen drain line—old metal pipes.

Worked Sat. for Dean in the baitshop so he could go chase some quackers for the day.

Bass were hitting rubber worms in assylum bay but trolling for walleyes only produced a white bass & hammerhandle. jigged for walleyes south of boy scout island but no hits there either.

I am going out later today and will give the update on what I find-weather looks like it will be beautiful today.
Soon as the water temp. drops into the 50’s, I’ll start pitching K-grubs and ringworms underneath 94 bridge and cemetary rip rap.

Water temp. 62 degrees in main lake and 64 in cemetary. Targeted gill’s the entire afternoon with good success. Overall, approx. 100 fish caught between me and my buddy with approx. 2 fish over the one pound mark. Fish are really starting to stack up in wintering areas. Remember that Menomin has a 10 fish panfish limit-has been reported that some travelling from other areas have unknownly taken 25 fish. Maybe the DNR should post this unique rule at the landings????

Good to hear the panfish action is going strong, any perch by accident? I am going to try it Saturday afternoon weather permitting, probably start trolling for eyes and move to gills.

With the temps holding in the 60’s, the trolling bite should be still going strong.

I generally troll the eastern 2/3 of the lake to I-94, is there much action down in the bay by the waterski ramp or towards the dam?

That area is often overlooked. Good bass and panfish can be had down there. The area around the dam can put out some good eye action but I opt for jigging instead of trolling.

Thanks, will have to look that way if things elsewhere are slow.

Trolling bite was slow today. A few pike and crappie plus a couple of whites. Got some good eye action on jigs though. 9 to 11 fow, blue or green jigs . It sure seemed that the weather had things screwed up a bit, especially the trolling bite. Water temp is holding around 65. When the temp starts dropping again things will begin to pop. I think we are looking at a fantastic fall bite.

Fished Saturday afternoon but was distracted by the wind and bass tournament. No panfish around cemetery island and no walleye, jigging in 9-11 fow. Was very choppy so we thought the eyes would cooperate but guess they were busy elsewhere. Like you said Don, need some cooler weather, got a great spot on tainter from late october until ice up for eyes. There were some dandy 5 pound bass caught by the tourney guys, just can’t bring myself to fish bass. I think I like the challenge of gettin skunked by eyes.

Were there some eyes brought to the scale?

Good seeing you out there on Friday Don. I gave it untill dark and ended up catching a mixed bag of fish. Things were really slow and the panfish didn’t want to cooperate at all. I think maybe the storms Thursday night maybe had something to do with it. Oh well will give it a try again and this weekend and see what happens.

Several of the guys who placed in the top 5 had 2 walleyes, 5 bass and 2 northerns for their catch that was announced. They only read the catches for the top 5 and we could hear it in boat.

I think I am going to try and get out tomorrow morning or monday morning. Does anyone know if the trolling bite has leveled off at all?

I was out today and things seemed slow. If I was going to troll I would use a spinner crawler or spinner minnow and go real slow in 7-10 ft and see what happens. Other than that if there’s a breeze maybe give drifting a try. Spread out your lines and set them at different depths and see if that works. I may go out tomorrow as well depending on the weather and depending on how my am hunt goes. You got a cell phone?

I know it’s not Menomin, but I was smacking fish pulling cranks on leadcore up on Wissota today. Here is the report. If Memomin still has temps in the 60s, like Wissota still does, I wouldn’t put the cranks away.

Water temps in the mid to upper 50’s. For the cranks I would go bigger profile and troll a slighty slower speed, under 2mph.Or take a tip from Jason and troll leadcore shallow along the channel edges.

Things were a little slower today for me today also but did get a few fish jigging in 9 fow.

Got out this evening for about 2 hours with the girlfriend mainly pulling raps in 9-11fow. Boated roughly a dozen fish. All bass mostly around 14″-17″ and one 22″ Eye. Headed in when the rain started again but I will probably go out in the morning to give it another shot.

Was anybody else out? I saw 2 other boats, one off the point near the landing and the other out further.

Nice fish. Nope a broken kitchen sink faucet kind of messed with my plans a bit today. I won’t be able to get out untill next Sunday now. Keep us posted.

Nice pic!! With the water temp. dropping, pull out the jigs and start pitching. Ringworms work great!
