Don, I clicked on your web link after your name and it brought me to a site with a picture of a girl on it and a list of different things. Is this the web site?

Looks like Don let his domain expire. He better jump on getting it renewed ASAP.

Might be going out tonight after work, otherwise tomorrow afternoon. Going to try the trolling bite first, otherwise into the river to key on current breaks and even try dragging jigs. Of course when I go experimenting, usually I catch nothing! Will keep you posted.\
I expect the trolling bite should still be going as it is a typical summer pattern. Earlier this summer I found the eye’s relating more to the old channel edges at times of high pressure and when things stablize out they tend to go hunting out around on the ajacent flats. With trolling this year, if I marked fish, I caught fish. With the clarity of the lake this time of year, midday can be great and the fish not right on the bottom. The green only goes down so far and actually the clarity is good below.

She is cuter than you Don, but you have better walleye pics on your site than she did.

At my age, the walleyes are starting to win.

Got out Friday afternoon for a couple hours before family came along for a boat (trolling) ride. Did find eyes in 9FOW scattered in small schools. Ended up with 6 walleyes (big fish 21) 5 northerns and the usual white bass-which are running bigger this year. Speed was 2.2 to 2.5mph GPS and for some reason they wanted jointed #5’s in firecraw run just off the bottom. The water clarity in the main lake was great at between 3-4ft–all the green was blown north. Highlight of the night was my daughter caught her first eye and northern.

Thanks for the update Doc. My training schedule just is not allowing time on the water . The good news is, I have the dogs so birdy they are jumping out of their skin!

I got out Friday night and had similar results as Doc. Trolling about 10fow w/ JSR5’s in crawdad and firetiger seemed to do well. Seems like you cannot beat a jointed sr5/7 on that lake, they just produce more than any other type of rap. Also like doc said the water was actually really nice, only getting real green and murky up by the 94 bridge.

    Peteyb,
I did not try firetiger, kept one rod going with the craw patterns as a control and experimented with different shape cranks with the other. Usually a #5 rap is the most consistant for me on the lake, but was difinitely not the case Friday.

Yeah, I have another question for you guys. Next weekend I think my niece is coming over for a little while and I was thinking about maybe trying for some Panfish seeing as she is 4. Where would my best bet be at this time of year?

    Pete,
This time of year that question is a tough one. Seems like all the other fish in the lake, the gill’s travel a lot. What I’d do is fish the cribs and don’t give any specific crib more than 15 minutes. Menomin is pretty much a featureless basin with rest stops. IMHO, the fish roam around looking for food and utilize the cribs for a short period and then off again. A hot crib most likley is just currently being utilized by a good sized school of gills. The best advice I can give you is keep the bait lively-if the worm is not wigglin’, make it hit the road and put on a new one.

I have had some outstanding panfish days pulling small floating cranks behind 3 ways. Perch and firetiger have been the best colors.
