So I’m looking into buying the mega live but I don’t want to buy the helix 9 kit which sonar would be best with the helix conversion mega live

This basically is a screen size decision. I would recommend the 9″ helix as it seems to be in the sweet spot for cost, screen size, weight and power consumption. Sure, the extra screen size on a 12″ is nice to look at but they’re bulky, heavy and the additional power consumption means you’ll be hauling around a giant battery as well.

    I was thinking a smaller unit like a 8 or 7

If that’s what you want, go for it. No reason not to if those units provide the screen size that will work for you. Keep in mind if you want to go with the 7 you’ll need the 7G4N.

People told me I’d regret my 73cv in lieu of the 93cv to view garmin’s live imaging. to be honest, Its not been a big deal for me but seeing it on a 9″ screen, I would of likely done it different.

I have the 9 and we were on LOTW in a rental shack with a bunch of people and lines down. We turned the screen so most of us could watch and learn from across the shack. It is a tough decision.

Fished on Red this past weekend with someone who had live for the first time. I was getting the play by play every time a walleye swam through and man it makes you feel like a bad angler knowing all the fish that swim right past you that you never would’ve known were there with your flasher. jester

    Pretty crazy tech.

This is what I’ve been told as well, that 9″ screen is the sweet spot and that the smaller ones are too hard to see and the bigger ones are hard to lug around.

I run mine with a 9G3N and I wouldn’t go any smaller, you can get a summit shuttle or an arc shuttle and they fit great in the clam flasher bag. I would think a Helix 7 would be small. Once you get everything it isn’t very mobile to begin with so I wouldn’t skimp on the screen.
