Anyone else happen to look at the MN Lake Cam….. Medicine is opening up big time.
And the 2016-2017 Ice season is a wrap
Rain & very high winds should finish off most of the metro lakes soon. I was fishing open water on Minnetonka yesterday. I was surprised to see a few guys still ice fishing it.
I drove out on mille lacs this morning, it ain’t over until it’s a floating iceberg I can’t get to

You couldn’t pay me enough money to drive out, and risk my life to catch perch. I just saw this AM that anther vehicle went trough.
Portions of the St. Croix have been open for two weeks now that would have normally been ice covered. I was assuming some of the metro lakes weren’t that far behind. It’s suppose to be colder after this system moves thru. May put a “pause” button out for ice further north. Although, I’d beware of the warm sunny days near shore from here on out. Things can start to get pretty soft in the afternoon sun.
I’m guessing the 55mph wind gusts that are on the way will get the sheet moving on Mille Lacs. Will be watching the lake cams tonight / tomorrow. Will be interesting.

Would not be surprised if most of the lakes from Alexandria to south and east open up after the wind we’ll be having over the next 48 hours. Looks like a fair amount of open water spots on lakes in the Willmar area on the MODIS picture yesterday.
Sam how did you do on Isle bay? Saw 2 guys on Big Carnelian today. Nobody on Big Marine.
I drove past Medicine after work yesterday, and it was opening up nicely. Fish and Eagle Lakes both appeared wide open this morning!
I talked to Joe Harty the other day and he thinks he can take boats pretty soon
looked out the window this morning and Phelps bay on Tonka is mostly wide open. With this wind today it should spread across connecting bays pretty quickly.
Drove by Medicine Lake around 10:30 this morning. Was about 25 yards of broken up ice blown up against the southeastern shore that I’m sure will be gone by the end of the day.

Still there.
any update on Tonka? would love to launch the alumacraft this saturday.
Anyone been to the launch at French lately?
Need to do some fine tuning carb work and don’t want to work with muffs this weekend. Thought of just backing up the trailer without unhooking anything and having at it for a bit. Don’t think anyone would mind this time of year on 2-3lane ramp
Just what I can see from 169 when going to work. Do we get to talk about an Ice in the same month after an ice out?? I know it won’t happen but it’s been interesting to watch the ice reform on the sw side.

We were wide open on most bays before it got cold again. Many of the big bays have ice extending out 100 ft now and some of the smaller lakes like black are iced over again. Not sure if any of the launches are open of ice right now.
I have not been by Medicine, but I drive past Fish Lake in Maple Grove, and the ice left again on mid-day this Monday.
I was at the ramp in French Park yesterday. The lake is open as far as I could see.
