can definitely see why bears would want a new stadium. New soldier field was a mistake to begin with. I believe they ended up with fewer seats than they had at old soldier field.

As everybody in Illinois knows Arlington Park (the old horse track) is where the Bears are going. The old company I use to work for is conducting the on-line auctions of the assets right now. Once they are done I’m guessing they bulldoze all 360 acres and start pouring concrete.

The trend with professional sports stadiums is building more than a stadium…it’s the malls, bars, hotels, casinos, resorts, etc. Soldier Field is small and sandwiched in an area with no space for development nearby. This isn’t really a surprise, more of a “why did it take so long?” situation.

If they don’t start to build continuity and consistency through the organization, the new fancy stadium isn’t going to really matter. Think of it as the fanciest portapotty in a line of stink.

The scuttlebutt is five minutes after Virginia McCaskey dies (she is 99) the team gets sold to a group that includes William Carstanjen (CEO of Churchill Downs) Pat Ryan (presently owns 19.7% of the team with right of first refusal on the rest) and Neil Blum (Chicago magnate and billionaire). There will be so much politics wrapped up in this that potential buyers like Jeff Bezos will be on the outside looking in.
