Opening weekend around Ely hosted a good lake trout bite for those targeting the King of Fresh water. Some did well on ciscos, while trolling spoons and Raps worked well too. Trout are generally shallower or in the top 20 feet or so in the water column.
Walleye have been successfully pursued with classic minnow/leech/crawler presentations in 15-33 feet, with bigger fish coming off slowly retrieved cranks in about 15′ at the bottom of currents and mouths of bays. At night walleye have been moving shallow, and we expect they will begin staging shallower soon.
LM Bass are on their beds with most females still holding eggs. SM Bass are not quite on the shorelines, but they are staged on rocky to rock/sand flats and females are plump with eggs. Pike are all over from shallow to deep and crappies have been in transition to their spawning grounds. I will try to keep up with updates, but as always, feel free to contact me for current bite info.
This bass was about 40 feet from shore in about 5 feet of water on a rocky flat. Courtesy of a Bone color shallow Shadow Rap.
