+1 for the Bed-in-a-Box.
We have a high-end $3,500 memory foam mattress in our primary home and took a flyer on a Bed-in-a-Box for our cabin based on great on-line reviews. They weren’t lying. Both my wife and I prefer the Bed-in-a-Box. Our son in Cali went with one too on our recommendation. He also loves the mattress.
The FW and I bought a Luft Luxury Firm (checked out at the Sleep Sherpa) this past summer. We really like it. 
We had a traditional matress (5-6 years old) that seemed fine to me. My wife disagreed. My wife bought a mattress that came in a box and sits on a stand. I know nothing about it other than I put it together and I sleep fine on it. She said it was around $850 all together (cheaper than our previous mattress).
